The Opponent

Each opponent holds a different challenge. They all have different styles, different strong points, different weaknesses and most importantly to me, differing states of mental toughness. If you are able to understand their psyche you should be able to work out how to play them. The actual process of playing squash is important, but to understand your opponent is to already match one up on them.

Using video analysis is a great way to break down your opponent's playing strengths and weaknesses. Even though you generally know your opponent's weaknesses, seeing them on the screen reinforces and emphasises them. Bear in mind your opponent, but do not allow him to be the most important factor in your mind. You have to remember to play your game.
